Some recent comings and goings from the health and safety community

Roger Alesbury, Group head of occupational hygiene for BP, has been elected president of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS). Roger has been a member of BOHS since 1977, holds the Diploma of Professional Competence in occupational hygiene, and is a fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene. He said of his new role: “It is an honour to be elected president of this illustrious Society at a time when the global requirement for occupational hygiene is increasing rapidly. There is growing recognition of the need for competence in this field to ensure a proportionate approach to preventing people’s health being damaged, or their lives being shortened by hazards at work.”

 

The British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) is delighted to announce the appointment of a number of key industry specialists to its Council. Mark Johnstone, chief executive of JSP Ltd, has been elected finance director, while BM Polyco’s deputy MD Sarah Bridge is the BSIF’s new director of marketing. Also new on the council are Thomas Martin, joint MD of Arco; John Wright, area sales manager for North by Honeywell; and Frank Angear, respiratory protection product manager for Scott Health and Safety.

 

The National Association for Safety and Health in Social Care (NASHiCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Jackson as its new national chair. He is planning to continue and further develop the partnerships he and former chair Lynnda Coleman put in place, by working together with key organisations in the social-care sector to raise the profile and importance of health and safety.

 

Mobile access tower industry body PASMA has appointed David Walker as its southern regional auditor. He will be responsible for ensuring that PASMA training centres meet the body’s training scheme requirements and achieve agreed standards. David has previously been chairman of the Ladder Association and was a founder member of the Access Industry Forum.

 

Ralph Weaver CMIOSH is the new health and safety advisor at Lorien Engineering Solutions, and was also recently appointed chair of the Midland branch of IOSH. Ralph said: “I am honoured to represent more than 3500 members in our region to promote safer and healthier working, but my appointment at Lorien also gives me the opportunity to develop further as a chartered SHEQ practitioner with a forward-looking company.”

 

Christian Hopper has joined American environment and safety consultancy RMT International as UK business development manager, focusing on expanding the company’s services throughout Europe. Prior to joining RMT, Christian worked across a variety of industries providing client-focused health, safety, energy, carbon and environmental management and training solutions.
