Tasked with maintaining the UK’s nuclear deterrent, the Atomic Weapons Establishment is unlike any other organisation. As one of the nation’s largest high technology research and development facilities, our scientific and engineering expertise is second-to-none. And the same exacting standards apply to everything we do. Join our ‘blue-chip’ science environment, and you can expect unparalleled opportunities to develop your career across diverse technical fields.
With responsibility for a specific business area but also working as part of the wider Assurance function, you’ll provide hands-on health, safety and environmental advice within a highly regulated nuclear environment. Your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of assurance, from compliance through to radiological working, as well as undertaking audits and reviews. It means you’ll have the scope you need to continually develop your skills – and your career – within a unique environment.
You should have a NEBOSH certificate as a minimum and be working towards an NVQ Level 4 and/or an IOSH diploma. Your knowledge should encompass BS EN ISO 9000, 14001 and 18001 and you’ll be skilled in hazard identification and risk assessment techniques. You’ll be expected to make your mark right from the start so extensive practical experience in general assurance is essential.
As well as the opportunity to continually develop your skills and abilities, you’ll enjoy a superb benefits package. One that includes 28 days’ holiday in addition to statutory bank holidays and a final salary pension scheme. For both roles, relocation assistance can be provided if appropriate.
