The Science and Technology Facilities Council will bring strategic leadership and an integrated approach to UK investments in large national and international research facilities, whilst continuing to deliver world class science, technology and people for the UK.

The Council is involved in some of the world’s most exciting research projects – like the Diamond Light Source Synchrotron and the Large Hadron Collider – and will develop new areas of science and technology – with your help.

ISIS is a world-leading intense pulsed neutron source providing beams of neutrons and muons to enable scientists to study the structure and properties of matter for the benefit of Science and Engineering. A new Target Station will become operational in 2008.

Reporting to the ISIS Facility Safety Officer, the Assistant ISIS Facility Safety Officer will be operationally based and work with all ISIS staff to implement a sensible safety management system and promote continuous improvement in the safety culture.

This will include working with teams and individuals to carry out risk assessments, accident investigations, inspections, audits and to organise and deliver health and safety training. The Assistant ISIS Facility Safety Officer will also support ISIS staff with duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.

The successful candidate will hold the NEBOSH National General Certificate or be prepared to work towards the qualification, have excellent interpersonal skills, a proactive approach and be enthusiastic and self motivated.
