Corporate Health and Safety Officer

There is an exciting opportunity to work within a team of professionals and to lead a programme of work to effectively embed a health and safety culture into the authority. This has the support from the very top of the organisation, with additional money being made available to achieve this. This includes the introduction of a new IT health and safety management system.

This role will play a critical part in this improvement programme. We are looking for a committed individual who is capable of influencing decisions and changing behaviours to ensure a positive health and safety culture is embedded and sustained within the authority.

As the Lead Officer for Corporate Health and Safety in Torbay Council you will be responsible for managing and working with a small team of officers. You will be expected to have a hands on approach to the role, primarily being the person to contact for health & safety advice and support within the Council. You will work with Directors, managers and all staff to ensure the Council meets its statutory requirements and operates safely across all its services, a number of which are provided under contract.

The role will involve policy development, risk assessment, auditing, performance monitoring and training, as well as undertaking and supporting investigations and chairing meetings such as the internal health and safety working group.
