A UK food distribution company is seeking a Regional Risk & Safety Manager. This company is partner some the most reputable food retail brands in the UK. You will covering four sites and can be based either in Coventry or Bristol. This company is looking for someone who is a stand out communicate, able to work independently and capable of building effective working relationships both within a team and with site managers.

The Role:

In conjunction with the Group Risk and Safety Manager develop the ongoing risk and safety strategy for the Group and lead its roll out within the regions

To provide expertise and leadership to senior managers (DCM's and Ops Managers) throughout the Group in their statutory duty of care for all site employees, contractors and visitors.

To ensure that the investigation of all accidents that occur at the Distribution Centres is competently completed and that RIDDOR accidents are notified.

Research and introduce R&S tactical initiatives that drive the delivery of R&S goals and objectives, encouraging continuous improvement and innovation. Provide technical guidance and support for this.

Monitor all accidents within the region and produce regional accident statistics to complement the national statistics produced by the Group Risk & Safety Department.

Manage the investigation material provided for Employers liability claims and host visits from claims handlers and legal representatives. Review claims for the region on a regular basis with the DCM.

Provide guidance and support to all sites in the management of H&S budgets.

Provide independent reviews of performance, at both a site and corporate means of auditing and inspection, escalating major issues accordingly. Incorporate KPI's into this process for reporting to the Operations Director

Have a thorough understanding of the risk management process, including operational control of major hazards, and apply this in order to drive risk reduction in a prioritised manner

Develop and deliver training and briefings to management teams on key issues and topics.

Utilise the group risk management software to ensure 'real time' knowledge of risk & safety activities of at Distribution Centres within the region.

Attend regular risk and safety meetings at Distribution Centres within the region. Disseminate information in relation to Group Strategies in risk and safety and monitor its introduction at DC level

In conjunction with local management, act as a focal point for maintaining a successful working relationship with USDAW health and safety representatives, which provides benefits to all employees.

Assist the GRSM and local management team in the successful testing and monitoring of the Business Continuity Policy. Provide training where require and become actively involved in any BCP declaration

Promote a positive HSE culture throughout the business.

Deputise for other RRSM's during holiday or absence

Carry out specialised projects as requested by the GRSM

To carry out such other duties which might be reasonably requested within the risk management field.

The Candidate

At least 3 years experience within a high-risk warehouse environment with a proven knowledge of warehouse and logistics operational procedures
Commercial awareness
Negotiation skills
Fully conversant with Microsoft Office
Forward planning
Nebosh Diploma / NVQ Level 5
BS 14001 awareness training, NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management
Proven auditing skills with Lead Auditor Training preferable,
To have a detailed working knowledge (3 years minimum) of operational procedures within warehouse and distribution and how risk and safety contribute to this.
Confident Trainer with Train the Trainer qualifications

To have the flexibility to work at different distribution centres on all shifts and be able to stay away from home when required.

Full valid driving licence.
