Director of Health, Safety & Environment - Competitive salary and package

Shirley Parsons has been retained by a prestigious manufacturing organisation to source a Health & Safety Director. The successful candidate will provide strategic and dynamic leadership of the function, working across a major, high-risk and fast moving environment. Responsible for the HSE strategy and leading a sizeable HSE team, while developing relationships with other key stakeholders and peers. The role will be reporting into the CEO and requires an autonomous leader to influence key stakeholders across the organisation.

The Role:

Reporting directly into the CEO, you will be responsible for all aspects of HSE across multiple business units with the aim of cultivating a collaborative and progressive culture, and designing, implementing and developing strategy throughout the organisation, in line with key company objectives
Heading up a team of H&S professionals in the UK and overseas, you will encourage open and honest communication across the team, including between different countries and different business units; you will encourage innovation and new H&S initiatives from the team, in line with the group H&S strategy
Acting as a visible leader for HSE excellence, promoting and enabling a progressive, forward-thinking culture throughout the business; you will strive for "best in class" and ensure buy-in to H&S at all levels of the business
You will engage with senior stakeholders throughout the business to ensure that the group HSE strategy is effectively and consistently implemented throughout the organisation
Providing regular, detailed reports at board level on H&S performance, with appropriate recommendations for the continuous improvement of each business unit in terms of H&S culture and compliance

The Candidate:

Degree or Diploma level qualification in HSE is essential
Significant experience of operating at a senior HSE leadership level, reporting at board level is required
A background in manufacturing or heavy engineering is essential
Experience of COMAH regulated sites is preferable
A demonstrable track-record of developing successful HSE strategy and enabling positive cultural change
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders of all levels successfully
