Mitchelstown (County Cork) and Naas (County Kildare)

Safety professionals are so negative, aren’t they? Don’t do this! Watch that! How many times have I told you…?

Their glass isn’t just half empty. It’s wrapped in cotton wool, with a non-combustible liquid inside.

Fortunately, there are still plenty who think differently – and they’re precisely the ones we need to fill these newly created regional roles.

We’re looking for positive, pragmatic people who are enthusiastic about the difference H&S can make. People who can go into a retail operation and make things happen – not wait for the worst to happen. Champions of H&S who look at what’s commercially possible – not nitpickers or naysayers.

It’s a rare opportunity to make a big impact with a big company. These are jobs with a growing, successful retailer – one you’ve definitely heard of.

Under a new H&S Director, they’re introducing a dedicated Health & Safety team in every region of the UK and Ireland. You’ll be warmly welcomed as an expert in your field. You’ll shape the way things are done, introduce new ideas and help create a safety culture that goes beyond compliance to ensure operations, employees and customers are truly safeguarded.

Challenge and change

It can be challenging here; that’s retail. Hopefully, you’ll see that as a positive too – you can’t make change happen without questioning the way things are done.

You’ll have the chance to climb the ladder (provided you have the appropriate footwear, of course.) The company is hugely supportive of CPD – both in terms of time and money, so you can expect to broaden your technical knowledge and gain new qualifications. If you have an existing expertise (for example, fire, food, waste, construction, contractor management, warehousing) you could become a company-wide safety lead in that area.

About you…

You need a NEBOSH General Certificate at least. A diploma would be nice. Day to day, the job spans inspections, audits, training, risk assessments and monitoring across stores, offices and distribution centres. You’ll need to show you can handle all that and that you’re comfortable working in a large multi-site environment; retail or logistics experience would be a big plus.

Personally, we’re looking for confidence, credibility and strong communication skills – essential for dealing with regulators and enforcement officers externally as well as advising and influencing your colleagues.
