Focusing on the skills and understanding actually required in the workplace, the NCRQ suite of qualifications in applied health and safety are proving remarkably popular with professionals and employers.

We are currently looking for a Health and Safety Tutor to join our team based in Chester.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in teaching and mentoring students by encouraging self-directed learning. The ideal candidate will have extensive and recent real-world experience of health and safety management in a range of environments, either within an organisation or from an enforcement perspective.

Core responsibilities:

  • Providing technical advice and assistance both orally and via email communication to learners of different abilities, experience and backgrounds

  • Providing support to students to facilitate their understanding using practical examples from the Tutor's own experiences

  • Providing constructive feedback in relation to assessments

  • Contributing to the development of new training materials

Candidates applying for this role will be highly competent and engaging individuals who have a passion for health and safety. You will be a professional and confident communicator with the ability to empathise with students across all levels.

Skills and capabilities:

  • A qualification in occupational safety and health at QCF level 6 or above

  • A natural ability to be able to critically analyse complex problems and explain these to others

  • The ability to apply health and safety legislation, principles of risk control and safety management to a wide variety of scenarios from first principles

  • A comprehensive knowledge of occupational health and safety hazards, control measures, and legislation

The successful candidate must be prepared to respond to email queries from students on alternate weeks until 8pm Monday to Friday and between 12pm to 2pm Saturday and Sunday (which can be undertaken from home).

In this newly formed role, you will be a key member of a leading qualification provider that is instrumental in changing the way health and safety development and learning is carried out.

To apply:

It is essential that candidates have extensive and recent real-world experience of health and safety management. Please ensure that you meet the minimum experience requirements below:

  • At least five years experience of health and safety management working at the level of Health and Safety Manager or equivalent, where you were the most senior person in an organisation (not as a consultant) with dedicated health and safety responsibilities; or

  • Experience as an inspector with the Health and Safety Executive or a local authority.
