Shirley Parsons have been retained on an exclusive basis to appoint a Health, Safety and Environment Manager for a prestigious Welsh university. Reporting into the Director of Estates this is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious, forward thinking institute. Crucially, you will provide insight and expertise for all HSE matters across the university, with both a strategic and operational remit. Promoting and developing a robust HSE culture, suitable candidates must possess strong influencing skills with an ability to engage at all levels.

The Role:

Influence leaders and senior managers throughout the University, driving the HSE agenda
Develop systems that allow operational Managers to manage HSE at a local level
Lead the HSE team, encouraging professional development and service delivery
Manage a broad range of risk including several high hazard research environments
Work with a diverse range of individuals from rural farmworkers to academic research staff; demonstrating an adaptable, influential approach
Direct and manage accident investigations, identifying lessons learnt and improvement programmes
Take ownership of the environmental function, ensuring performance and continuous improvement
Work closely with the senior leadership team to drive best practice and compliance
Extensive experience of dealing with the HSE, local government and a variety of regulatory bodies

The Candidate:

CMIOSH or GradIOSH, working towards chartered status
Proven management experience in a varied, dynamic environment
Able to work at a strategic level and produce reports for council and senior management
Strong communication and engagement skills
Environmental auditing or CDM experience would be advantageous
Commercially minded with a modern approach to HSE Management. Suitable candidates must be able to operate in a diverse risk environment, enabling performance and driving change
