Location – Flexible, applicants must be able and willing to travel nationally on a regular basis

Where you’ll work

The role will involve travel in order to work collaboratively with your team and the wider business and we anticipate an office base for you in one of either;  Warrington, Cannock, London or Otterbourne

What you’ll do

Health and Safety is of paramount importance to us and we want you to help us with our cultural change and objectives in achieving our journey of ‘Active Risk’.

The Risk & Assurance Sector Head works closely with the respective COO, to support the business to improve their performance on Quality, Health & Safety, Risk & Insurance, Security and Environment. The role will provide direction, reporting and assurance, as well as implementing Risk & Assurance projects and improvements.

You’ll provide monthly management reports to the COO for Public & Commercial, including progress against leading and lagging indicators and host regular meetings providing support and advice. The role will also see you actively engage and attend business leadership meetings, to report on Risk & Assurance performance on a monthly / quarterly basis.  Your collaborative working style will ensure other functions are visible within the business and have an integrated approach. You will need to work with other support functions and operations, including the Active Risk projects.  There will be a requirement for you to lead on Active Risk projects to ensure the project team has all the relevant stakeholders and delivers the requirements.   The role gives you responsibility for the QHS team and you will ensure they are being developed, including working with other Risk & Assurance functions. You will be comfortable to positively challenge the board on their competency and effectiveness to aim for ‘Active Risk’ culture, provide updates on active risk projects.

We would look to you to mentor each member of the business leadership team on their Risk & Assurance Leadership and develop and oversee the Director Face 2 Face programme for the P&C business.

You will also have the opportunity to provide external leadership by attending and influencing clients and also the industry sector. We would want you to develop and maintain a risk profile for the operations and ensure improvement plans are in place for high risk sites. In addition, you will ensure the business is reviewing how effective Risk & Assurance is managed and ensure plans are in place to identify improvements and ensure these are implemented.  Another facet of the role will see you support strategic bids, including coordinating Risk & Assurance bid information. Finally you would ensure QHS is managed effectively throughout the P&C operations and contracts (arrangements, legal requirements and resources)

What you’ll need to know

An experienced Risk and Assurance professional with demonstrable capability to deliver a defined strategy through strong and collaborative senior partnerships essential

Able to demonstrate clear evidence of continuous improvement essential

A capable leader, able to empower the team in line with Veolia Values

Excellent knowledge of health and safety policy and culture, NEBOSH diploma and/or audit experience essential

Comprehensive knowledge of Veolia’s operational business highly desirable, experience of accident investigation in an operational environment essential

IEMA Environmental Management desirable

Commercial awareness; able to link the activities of your team to the financial consequence
