We are looking for an energetic and experienced Health and Safety Advisor to support the University’s Health and Safety Department whose focus is on providing competent health, safety and welfare advice to all staff to ensure that effective health and safety management is embedded across the University. 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislative and best practice requirements, relevant experience in successfully implementing occupational health strategies would be an advantage
  • Experience in developing and implementing emergency planning and business continuity strategies
  • Experience in driving forward recommendations from Audits, Inspections, Assessments, Health Surveillance and Investigation reports
  • A solution focus with exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage competing demands
  • Sound knowledge of health and safety management systems such as HS (G) 65 and OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001.

We need someone keen to create a positive safety culture across the BCU community and who can take the lead in promoting occupational health, safety, and wellbeing throughout the University.

The University is a wonderfully diverse organisation, utilising a range of settings which present a variety of health and safety issues: Workshops; performance spaces, TV Studios; Laboratories; lecture theatres; library and office space etc. as well as some major construction sites. Our exciting campus development plans will present both opportunities and challenges, providing the Health and Safety Team with a great opportunity to make a real contribution to the development of the university environment.
