Health, Safety & Wellbeing Advisor x2

Health and safety is a big challenge when you’re one of the largest employers in Leicestershire.

About the role

From schools, libraries, offices and residential homes, to parks, swimming pools, highways and recycling centres, health and safety challenges come in many forms at Leicestershire County Council.  Our 15 Health, Safety and Wellbeing specialists support 8,500 staff providing services to over 600,000 local residents and we are seeking to appoint two additional Health, Safety and Wellbeing Advisors.

We also provide services to a range of external clients in academies, care sector, ALMO’s and other Local Authorities. The outward facing services include consultancy, auditing, training and customer care etc. We therefore require the best people.

It’s a great opportunity to develop your expertise through exposure to a broad range of work including risk assessments, workplace inspections, audits and advisory work. You’ll also act as a duty officer, carry out staff training, update H&S information and pitch to academies for provision of H&S services. Contributing to a mix of group and individual projects, you’ll be supported by our large and forward-looking team.

About you

Your background could be with another local authority, public sector organisation or private organisation, but you’ll have a good grounding in all aspects of health, safety and wellbeing. Your success depends on a can-do attitude, team-focused outlook, and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.

You’ll hold a NEBOSH certificate and be qualified to at least Tech IOSH level, working towards Grad IOSH.  Knowledge of OHSAS 18001/ ISO 45001 is important, while experience of the construction industry would be an advantage. Possession of a valid driving license is essential.

About us

Leicestershire is a beautiful county at the heart of England, with a successful economy with higher than (national) average wage levels, low rates of unemployment and a relatively diverse mix of industries. There’s a lifestyle to suit everyone, from bustling market towns to timeless rural villages.
