Corporate Health and Safety Manager

Ipswich Borough Council is seeking a Corporate Health and Safety Manager to lead its approach to ensuring it operates safely when providing a wide range of services to the public. Our services include parks and cemeteries, waste and recycling, sports centres, swimming pools, theatres, car parking, and maintaining 7,500 Council homes.

The opportunity

The Council is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to lead the Health and Safety Team. You will work with senior managers to sustain and improve health and safety performance and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Reporting to the Corporate Support Operations Manager, the role will include developing policy, working with service managers to carry out audits and inspections, investigating and reviewing accidents, incidents and near misses. The role includes the management of multiple projects, achieving challenging deadlines and managing the employee Health and Safety Training programme.

What are we looking for from you?

This is the ideal position for a candidate who has strong experience of carrying out risk assessments, accident investigations, safety inspections, creating and delivering H&S training, routine audits and promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the business.

Previous experience within a Health and Safety management position within local government or other related industry would be ideal. The ability to engage with people at all levels including key stakeholders is vital. You will be confident working in a fast-paced environment with solid experience in developing and implementing H&S management and advisory services to ensure compliance with the law. A proven track record in promoting H&S standards at a high level and managing employees is required.

You will have strong leadership skills and excellent interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate considerable experience of leading organisational change, inspiring and developing teams and delivering a culture of continuous improvement at the same time as implementing key health and safety initiatives.

You will hold BSc in Occupational Health and Safety, have 5 years qualitative experience and hold NEBOSH National Diploma
