In this role, you will play a key part in supporting keeping operation safe and compliant.  You will interpret business standards and UK regulations, ensure this is reflected and up to date in site policies and procedures, and collaborate with cross functional teams to aid implementation.

To be considered for the Safety Engineer opportunity you must be hold a degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering based subject and the NEBOSH general. You will be a trained auditor (ISO14001 or OHSAS18001 standard) with an ability to provide innovative solutions to problems, with experience of structured problem-solving techniques such as Six Sigma and Lean.

It is desirable to have Upper Tier COMAH site exposure and essential to have 7-8 years of experience within the industry. You must be GradIOSH however it is desirable to hold CMIOSH.

As the Safety Engineer you will investigate all accidents, incidents and near misses with a safety and/or health impact. Collate information in relation to accidents, incidents and near misses. Communicate relevant information (lessons learned etc.) to staff, Sector and Group as appropriate.

You will review and revise existing site procedures w.r.t COMAH requirements (i.e. based on COMAH Regulation and Guidance Notes, safety report actions, COMAH action plan, queries and requests from HSE and EA, etc.). Further develop the site’s Emergency preparedness and response procedure. Review smelting, evaluation and chemicals SOPs for EHS/COMAH critical content.

You will develop a comprehensive site auditing plan and schedule. Ensuring audits are conducted according to schedule. Conduct PTW Audits (minimum 2 per week) whilst conducting internal auditing based on OHSAS 18001. Ensure PUWER assessment are complete and actions are managed in conjunction with engineering.

EHS CAPEX - Attend CAPEX projects review meetings, Challenge priorities of EHS CAPEX where appropriate – timelines, project scope etc. Attend Haz studies for CAPEX projects.
