Corporate Health & Safety Manager

Chichester District Council is looking for an outstanding, enthusiastic, motivated and well organised, experienced health and safety professional to manage the Corporate Health & Safety team.  The Corporate Health and Safety Manager is responsible for managing a small team that provides competent health and safety advice and support to people at all levels within the organisation. 

The role is expected to have a ‘hands-on’ approach to all aspects of the role as well as the management responsibilities, providing a full range of comprehensive health and safety support and technical advice to staff at all levels and members within the Council.  Therefore, the post holder will need to have a sound knowledge of health and safety principles, legislation, approved codes of practice and guidance. 

You will be expected to forge excellent working relationships with staff throughout the organisation to maintain health, safety and welfare standards within the Council. 

The post holder will need to be able to manage their workload, using their own initiative and on very rare occasions working outside office hours.  

The successful candidate will also have:

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and be a Chartered Practitioner with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health
  • Excellent management and people skills
  • The ability to deliver health and safety training
  • The ability to undertake accident investigations
  • Experience in carrying out audits and inspections
  • Effective written communication and influencing skills and a high degree of professional credibility
  • Excellent organisational and problem solving skills
  • Confidence in the use of spreadsheets, outlook and PowerPoint
