Health and Safety Adviser

Founded in 1596 by Archbishop John Whitgift, the Whitgift Foundation is a charity based in Croydon, whose aims are to provide education for the young and care for the elderly.

Today, over 400 years later, that commitment continues to grow. We run three outstanding independent schools which are supported by one of the largest bursary schemes in the country; we care for elderly people in Croydon in our three care homes under Whitgift Care; and we offer invaluable and impartial information, support and training to an estimated 34,000 carers in Croydon through our Carers’ Information Service. In 2013, in a joint initiative with Croydon Council, we opened the Carers Support Centre, a drop-in centre which offers a range of services for carers in Croydon. In 2016 we started the 1596 Club, a daily club for those elderly residents in Croydon still living in their own homes, offering them the opportunity of some social company and various fun and stimulating activities with our permanent residents.

We are looking for a Health and Safety Adviser to join the Chief Executive's senior management team, based in central Croydon.

As the Health and Safety Adviser to the Foundation, the role requires someone  who is a Chartered Member or Fellow of the Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (CMIOSH/CFIOSH) with previous experience in an advisory role to advise the governors, the Chief Executive, Heads of our schools and care homes, and managers throughout the Foundation, on all health and safety matters to ensure current health and safety regulatory requirements are being met across all parts of the Foundation.

Experience of advising on building and construction projects and environmental improvement initiatives would be an advantage.
