Risk Assurance Manager

Are you an experienced assurance professional with a background in risk, quality, safety, audit and security with a relevant degree or equivalent qualification? 

Do you have substantial knowledge and industry experience of working with compliance frameworks, driving continuous improvement and the ability to drive cultural change? 

The UK Atomic Energy Authority have an excellent opportunity for a Risk Assurance Manager to join their team within the Assurance Division. The team consists of circa 30 employees and are responsible for providing advice and support across the organisation in the disciplines of health and safety, health physics, environment, quality and security. 

Key accountabilities/responsibilities include: 

  • Supporting the delivery of the UKAEA`s strategic goals, providing robust assurance frameworks, utilising a collaborative approach with key stakeholders. 
  • Leading the enterprise risk, audit and oversight programmes enabling robust identification, assessment, mitigation and reporting of risks. 
  • Overseeing Security Policy and Business Continuity Management ensuring organisational resilience. 
  • Driving the business in the development and promotion of a proactive culture.

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MASTU fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience 

Essential 

  • Highly qualified safety, quality or risk management professional 
  • Chartered membership of one or more relevant Professional Organisations and undertaking a scheme of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) e.g. chartered member of Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH). 
  • Knowledge and experience of quality, security, occupational health & safety and environmental management and relevant areas of civil and criminal law 
  • Knowledge and experience of managing enterprise risk and audit 
  • Project Management experience 
  • Proven experience in a senior role successfully managing and motivating a team 
  • Highly developed organisational awareness, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence, persuade and communicate with people at all levels within and external to the organisation e.g. regulatory bodies. 
  • Ability to provide strong visible leadership 

Desirable 

  • Lead Auditor qualification

  • As part of the selection process you may be expected to complete work based simulation exercises and a personality profile either online or onsite.
