Health & Safety Advisor

TWI’s Quality and Safety Group successfully manages certificated management systems satisfying ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Within the Group, the Health and Safety team provide support to everyone working at TWI’s Head Office in Abington as well as the UK regional offices.

We are seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to join this busy and friendly team. Your duties will include carrying out health & safety audits and inspections, providing training and induction for students and employees and offering advice and assistance to management, staff and students on health and safety matters. You will also deal with accident and incident reporting and statistics. Although the main focus of your role will be Health & Safety you may also work with our Quality and Environmental Management Systems.

You will be required to work with minimum supervision, using investigation and negotiation to solve problems in order to deliver a timely, efficient and professional service to internal customers. You will be expected to build your expertise in appropriate areas and keep up to date with developments in standards and legislation.

You will be a self-motivated individual, able to work alone or as part of a small team. You must be organised and able to work to deadlines whilst managing frequent interruptions. Accuracy and attention to detail will be important to you. Excellent communication skills are key to this role as it is envisaged that a significant proportion of your time will be spent with colleagues working in laboratories and workshops.

Ideally you will have a track record of working in an Engineering environment and an understanding of the health & safety issues relating to chemicals and mechanical equipment, together with experience of working with ionising and non-ionising radiation. A NEBOSH certificate or other relevant Health & Safety Qualification would be advantageous but training may be provided for the right candidate. This role will require travel to our UK regional sites.
