Multinational giant in the design and manufacturing industry is looking for a site Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to join their well positioned rapidly expanding manufacturing site in Hertfordshire.

To be considered for the Site EHS Manager opportunity you MUST have experience of working in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment with the ability to work with all levels of the business. You will be qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years experience within an engineering environment.

You will have demonstrable knowledge of safety and environmental legislation along with a pragmatic approach to the implementation of such, recognised industry ‘best practices’, and relevant ISO Standards. Required ‘key’ areas of competency to effectively perform the role are as follows (not exhaustive): Machinery Safety: encompassing PUWER, SMSR and CE conformance processes; COSHH: including the ability to conduct relevant risk assessments, and the application of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems; Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment (LOLER) Regulations and the application of safe practices; Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere (DSEAR) and ATEX applications and assessment.

As the Environment, Health and Safety Manager you will provide effective “hands-on” support to the Site in terms of the implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the site, entailing interaction with all levels of associates as necessary to further develop the safety culture, implement improvements as required, and maintain statutory compliance obligations.

You will co-ordinate and report the status of investigations following accidents and incidents to ensure effective corrective and preventative actions are implemented. Whilst assisting with the implementation of HS&E policies, procedures and other documentation ensuring the effective maintenance and development of the Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management System, including maintaining certifications as necessary.

Reporting in to the Group EHS Manager, you will represent the HSE function at daily production (and other) meetings as necessary, communicating the current Health and Safety status and co-ordinating effective countermeasures to any concerns identified. Whilst ensuring the completion of necessary statutory assessments (Noise, Vibration, DSEAR, Fire, COSHH etc.) using internal or external resources as necessary.

The overall objective of the position is to maintain and improve, as far as possible, accident and incident ratio’s, reduce or eliminate the level of risks to identified hazards, and ensure adequate levels of statutory compliance by the effective engagement of associates at all levels. Due to the role encompassing both safety and environmental disciplines, it is envisaged that the position will entail time allocation between both disciplines at a rate of approximately 70% safety and 30% environmental, dependent upon company priorities at any time.
