Conventional Health and Safety - Regulatory Inspector
£37,019 - £44,326 plus a consolidated allowance of £10,000
Bootle
With expertise and experience,
You’ll shape nuclear health and safety.
The challenge
A fast-evolving public corporation, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is committed to shaping the future of regulation in the UK nuclear industry. It’s an exciting challenge, and we need experienced Conventional Health & Safety Inspectors to regulate and provide expert advice across the nuclear industry. And not only is it a great chance to influence ONR practice, but also the future of the nuclear industry.
The role
Working as part of an in-house specialist team, you’ll undertake the regulation of conventional health and safety across the full range of ONR sites and provide specialist advice to ONR’s regulatory divisions. It’s about bringing your expertise and conventional health and safety regulatory knowledge and experience to unfamiliar and unusual situations.
You’ll also investigate incidents and events, and work closely with other specialist inspectors, often as part of a multi-disciplinary inspection team. Much of the role will be to provide guidance on best practice, and collaboration with others. As part of this, you’ll be expected to engage with licensees at all levels.
The person
With extensive experience of regulating health and safety in large organisations, particularly in the construction sector, you’ll confidently work within our complex and fast-paced environment. Your expertise will be based on a degree, and supported by an additional post-graduate qualification in occupational health and safety or equivalent. It’s about improving outcomes in the nuclear industry, so a proven record of raising standards in large organisations is essential. With extremely high expectations, you’ll soon spot any causes for concern and put the necessary steps in place.
The rewards
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £37,019 - £44,326 plus a non-consolidated allowance of £10,000. In addition, up to £8,000 relocation may be available. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for an incredibly substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a very generous holiday entitlement.
About us
ONR is a Public Corporation created to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK’s licensed nuclear sites. Our inspectors are drawn from all manner of professional backgrounds including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases to planned inspections and advising licensees on areas that are difficult to regulate such as safety culture, leadership and vision.
