Contract Type:  Permanent (37 hours)

Salary:  £35,934 - £37,849 Grade 11

Based at:   Humberside Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters,

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) is looking to recruit three highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work within their Health, Safety & Environment team at both Supervisor and Advisor levels.

A recent collaboration agreement with Humberside Police (HP) to provide a Joint Health and Safety Service (JHSS) has presented an exceptional opportunity for innovative and creative health & safety professionals to work for a progressive Emergency Service in roles that are critical to the continual improvement of the health and safety management systems of both blue-light organisations.

The collaboration agreement is set to evolve significantly over the next three years and these opportunities offer exposure to exciting and diverse environments with no two days being the same.

To be considered for these positions you must be qualified to a minimum of NEBOSH General Certificate or preferably National Diploma level with history of working in a similar environment. Proficiency in accident investigation is essential as are a high standard of computer literacy and effective communication skills.

Successful applicants must be adaptable and able to consistently display behaviour in line with the organisational principles of HFRS. These include leadership, dependability, innovation and passion.

Essential key personal qualities required for both roles are:

  • Self-motivation and confidence
  • Excellent organisational abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills but equally aware effective is preferable to popular
  • A decisive pragmatic approach
  • Flexibility
  • The ability to organise, plan and deliver target goals
  • Able to identify relevant factors and provide effective solutions in complex situations.

Joint Health and Safety Service Supervisor

Areas of responsibility include:

  • Development and review of policies and procedures to ensure ongoing organisational compliance.
  • Providing information, support and guidance to all staff on all matters relating to health, safety and environmental management within both Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and Humberside Police.
  • Advising senior management on any risks arising out of HFRS and HP activities and action needed to minimise any harmful effects.
  • Direct line management for the JHSS team.
  • Trend analysis to identify current safety priorities.
  • Carrying out risk assessments, audits, inspections and surveys.
  • Promotion of a positive safety culture.
  • Participation in consultations with employees and their representative bodies.
  • Representation of HFRS and HP at meetings with external stake holders.
