Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Manager

This position will be based in the Midlands.

The Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Manager is responsible to ensure the company complies with all health & safety legal requirements and regulations across all GEODIS D&E sites in the UK. He/she oversees and coordinates work systems to ensure that all the services GEODIS UK provide meet the required high standards and that the working conditions remain safe. He/she will act in a supporting and advisory capacity to the business on all H&S and environmental issues. He/she will also be responsible for compliance and maintaining ISO 9001.

Dimensions and Quantities

  • Reporting to UK Managing Director
  • Liaison with key stakeholders in the business mainly Regional and site Managers
  • Work collaboratively with management (UK and France), communications staff and others as appropriate

Key Activities / Accountabilities

  • Roll out the health and safety strategy across all sites whilst providing proactive focussed health, safety and environmental guidance and coaching to managers to drive forward a health, safety and environmental focused culture
  • Fully streamline and implement Safety Management Systems
  • Ensures advice is given to management on health, safety, environment and compliance issues and related legislation
  • Responsible for ensuring legislation is correctly followed at all times
  • Responsible for ensuring company standards are maintained to include fire prevention, H&S and environment awareness and site inspections
  • Ensures the working conditions are compliant with H&S regulations and acts accordingly when there is a need to address issues - raising with local management and escalating if required
  • Responsible for ensuring proactive monitoring regimes are executed by local management and records maintained at all times
  • Ensures incidents are investigated with follow up reporting documentation supplied.
  • Responsible for ensuring plans are put in place to mitigate repeat occurrences. Develop a regular H&S communication strategy/plan to share with management
  • Responsible carrying out annual H&S audits and implementing appropriate action plans to resolve findings and drive best practice
  • Visit all sites on a regular basis, identifying and assessing risks at all levels and report findings via local H&S meeting
  • Proposes new/revised processes and actions to prevent risk to the Company, staff, buildings, vehicles and goods
  • Work with HR to ensure that H&S training programmes are created and delivered across the business
  • Participates in local H&S meetings
  • Responsible for ensuring all forms of H&S risk assessment are undertaken and up to date e.g. general, manual handling, fire prevention
  • Ensure Occupational H&S related surveys carried out e.g. noise, lighting, and implement associated recommendations.
  • Prepare management reports as and when required - highlighting progress to the business via KPIs
  • Maintain ISO 9001 via Compliance Team
  • Conduct high level investigations in loss or theft if required
  • Manage the output of all safety champions
  • Vet contractor RAMS and prepare Permits to Work
  • Conduct Contractor H&S pre-approval checks as part of the procurement process
  • Provide advice to the facility’s team regarding internal works

PERSON PROFILE

Essential Education and/ or Training 

  • NEBOSH Diploma in H&S or equivalent
  • Chartered Status desired
  • Experience of working in a logistics, transport or manufacturing industry environment

Essential Technical experience

  • Firm understanding of H&S management ideally within a multi-site organisation
  • Experience of reporting on all H&S issues and incidents
  • Experience of implementing preventative measures to mitigate H&S risks to the business
  • Experience of site audits and follow up action plans
  • Experience of implementing plans and strategies to ensure H&S compliance
  • Experience of operational processes in transport and warehouse
  • Experience of contractor negotiations
  • Experience in investigation
  • French speaker would be advantageous
