As a Regional Health and Safety (SHEQ) Advisor you will support the Senior SHEQ Advisor and the wider business in the identification, management and control of SHEQ related risks. To provide information, advice, guidance and support to managers on H&S and Environmental legislation and to disseminate SHEQ (Safety, Health,Enviroment, Quality) best practice throughout the business along with developing SHEQ awareness material. To identify any gaps in the Integrated Management System (IMS) and support in developing these areas.

To identify weaknesses in safety performance and suggest methods of improvement in order to drive safety performance and cultural change by building safety into associated processes.

This role is regionally focused, primarily covering sites in the South, (M4 Corridor) including Bristol, Portbury, Thatcham and Hemel Hempstead but support and coverage of full Gist network as required therefore business travel will be required with overnight stays.

Your responsibilities

  • Provide competent health, safety and environmental advice to meet all appropriate legal and IMS policy standards
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Gist SHEQ Strategy and Risk Registers
  • Assist site management in the development of site Safety Action Plans relevant to the safety issues/risks identified
  • Report on key issues and progress against Gist SHEQ Strategy, Safety Action Plan and Risk Registers
  • To provide information, advice, guidance and support to managers
  • Provide SHEQ and technical support to site management teams across the Gist Network
  • Assist and support site management in the investigations into relevant accident, incidents and injuries
  • Analyse accident and incident performance for patterns and trends and advise management on appropriate corrective actions
  • Assist operational teams with emergency planning and arrangements, including testing of emergency plans
  • Assist Operational Teams in driving safety performance and safety culture by building safety into processes
  • Develop training materials on relevant SHEQ issues to meet business need and mitigate associated risks
  • Deliver SHEQ training to site teams, Safety Representatives and Representative of Employee Safety
  • Monitor the outputs from audits/inspections/reviews and any corrective actions raised
  • Coaching, mentoring and engagement with managers to encourage and imbed behavioural safety
  • Identify any gaps in the Integrated Management System (IMS) and support in developing these areas
  • Responsible for a number of sites within a Region of the Gist network
  • Travel throughout Gist's network of sites, both UK and Europe, as required

What will you need to succeed?

Essential

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety as a minimum
  • Technical member of IOSH (or working towards)
  • Minimum of three years' experience in health, safety and environment advisory role
  • Strong accident and incident investigation skills
  • Experience in the delivery of health and safety related training
  • Strong technical expertise in all areas of SHEQ (Safety, Health,Enviroment, Quality)
  • Statistical analysis skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and autonomously
  • Engaging and influencing at all levels within the business
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Computer literate in all Microsoft Office packages
  • Good presentational skills

Desirable

  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupation Health & Safety or equivalent e.g. NVQ
  • Knowledge of the logistics/distribution sector
  • Facilities/Building/Property safety management
  • Change management implementation
  • Working at Height
  • Manual Handling risks and mitigation
  • Fire Safety and Fire Risk Assessment
  • Engineering and/or machinery knowledge
  • Experience of safety management principles regarding construction/refurbishment activities
  • Multi-site experience
