The business is seeking an individual that will exemplify a culture where safety and health is paramount and act as a role model. Someone who actively seeks out new experiences and contributions from best practice in their field, and incorporates this into their part of the organisation, someone who surrounds themselves with people that can provide input and guidance and might even change their perspective on something.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • You will act as a role model to exemplify a culture where safety and health is paramount.
  • You'll be able to apply gap analysis to define required capabilities for an effective implementation of the 'to-be' safety organisation.
  • You'll be able to build required capabilities in operational leadership, line and safety professionals.
  • You'll be able to facilitate closing of identified capability gap by e.g. develop required training concepts.
  • You'll improve sustainability performance of the AA safety organisation over time and establish processes to build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • You'll establish compliance with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements, as well as ensuring compliance with Anglo American standards.

Specifics we are looking for in technical knowledge:

  • You will be able to demonstrate thought leadership and be considered a global expert in the understanding and application of the discipline/ field of safety.
  • You will be able to show a proven track record of leading ideas generation; translating these into practical initiatives to be implemented and demonstration of successful execution and delivery within Safety and Risk Management.
  • You'll have demonstrated experience in a senior people leadership role within a technical environment, including the coordination of knowledge sharing across a discipline, managing workload and reviewing the work of others to ensure consistency with task requirements.
  • You'll have of the good understanding of the complexities and application of integrated behaviour-based safety management.
  • You'll be able to devise and successfully execute the implementation of complex systems and projects using a recognised change management methodology.
  • You'll be able to provide a consistent outstanding role model in relation to safety practices with a deep understanding of the importance of safety.

Specifics we are looking for in technical skills:

  • You'll be an expert in developing and implementing integrated solutions to maximise value for the entire mine-to-market value chain to ensure productivity, a safe and sustainable working environment and delivery against plans.
  • You'll have advanced knowledge in the application of lifestyle management.
  • You'll have an advanced in-depth understanding of the mining value chain to identify and execute on opportunities where technical expertise can enhance business performance and sustainability.
  • You'll have a proficient interpretation of benchmarks, identification of performance gaps and development of targeted, effective plans to achieve measurable operational improvements.

Other requirements:

  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Regular domestic regional and international travel will be required.
  • Work on site at mine operations may be required, this may involve activities of a physical nature in a typical mine environment (for example noise, vibration, high altitude, heat, small spaces, reduced visibility).
  • Skill and experience in interfacing with media, shareholders, board members, unions, government officials is required.
