Job Details

Health and Safety Manager - West Yorkshire (elements of home working but ideally commutable distance to Bradford)- 6 month contract - housing and refurbishment - inside IR35 contract (PAYE/umbrella basis)

Duties and responsibilities:
Support the Head of Health and Safety on all matters of H&S and compliance
To promote, develop and implement a H&S strategy and objectives for the business that promote and embed a positive Health and Safety culture.
Identify ways of continually improving our H&S culture
Working with other teams and managers across the business, promote the health, safety and wellbeing of all employees.
To implement a full health and safety management system across the business that ensures compliance with all relevant legislation and achievement of best practice
To ensure an effective health surveillance programme is in place and be fully involved in the procurement and management of any external providers and consultants.
To implement and manage a full audit and inspection programme across the business including contractors and the DLO. Identify shortcomings and develop and implement action plans to address these.
Ensure effective and appropriate contractor management processes in place.
Ensure that processes are in place to monitor compliance with CDM. In addition, ensure suitable Construction Phase Plans and RAMS are in place.
Maintain our legal register for health and safety
Ensure an up-to-date suite of H&S policies, guidance materials and handbooks are in place.
To ensure delivery of a professional H&S service across the business offering advice and support. This includes complex areas of H&S and the interpretation and effective implementation of legislation, guidance and best practice.
To advise on and monitor the safety aspects of new plant, equipment, workplaces and working procedures, liaising as appropriate with manufacturers, contractors, architects and suppliers, as appropriate, to ensure that the necessary standards of health and safety are achieved.
Ensure that directors, managers and supervisors understand their role wrt health and safety
Ensure processes are in place for engagement and consultation with staff and trade union reps on H&S matters, including attendance at health and safety committees, local h&s meetings and any working groups
To ensure that directors, managers and supervisors have appropriate systems and review mechanisms in place to effectively manage and reduce risk and hazards in their areas of control.
To ensure processes are in place for the development, implementation and review of risk assessments and safe systems of work. These processes to ensure involvement of staff who undertake the role.
To ensure an effective culture is in place that encourages and promotes the reporting and investigation of all types of issues and incidents. This includes near misses, hazard reports, accidents and incidents, including violence at work.
Ensure that effective remedial actions and lessons are learnt and shared across the business following any such incidents. .
To prepare and present reports and accident statistics as required by the business
To support the team in the development and delivery of appropriate and effective health and safety training.
To manage and monitor the health and safety budget.
To have professional management responsibility for H&S and the asbestos team. Including managing performance, supporting development and maintaining cover as required.
Deputise for the Group Head of HSC on matters of Health and Safety

Qualifications/experience:-
Ideally degree/diploma level h&s qualification.
Graduate or Chartered membership of IOSH
Training qualification
Construction related h&s qualification or relevant experience
