The Role

We are looking for a Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) Advisor at STFC’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL). This is a key post reporting to the STFC RAL SHE Group leader, facilitating the development and delivery of STFC Health and Safety and Environment policies.

The role will support the RAL site and the MRC’s Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH) co-located on the RAL site.

In a small team this is an opportunity for the STFC SHE Group to add specific skills and experience in areas as diverse as: contractor management; laboratory and workshop safety (e.g. chemical, biological and physical hazards), fire and emergency safety management; engineering safety disciplines (construction, electrical, mechanical); waste management and environmental management.

To succeed in this role you will:

  • Be educated to degree or HND level in a science or engineering discipline
  • Have demonstrable experience of successful delivery of a SHE Advisory role in science, engineering or technology sectors
  • Have NEBOSH Diploma) or equivalent qualification, or evidence of commencement and part completion of Diploma or equivalent qualification
  • Have a working knowledge of current and forthcoming changes to relevant SHE legislation relevant to STFC operations.
  • Have strong IT skills and specific experience of the Microsoft office software suite

Desirable

  • Background knowledge of construction/engineering safety management
  • Experience planning, undertaking and reporting SHE audits
  • Successful development and delivery of face to face and/or on-line SHE training
  • A good knowledge of Fire Safety management
  • A good knowledge of Emergency Management
