Our team of dedicated health and safety, fire safety and occupational health professionals are committed to supporting the University’s core aims of excellence in research and excellence through the Enabling Environments strand of our People Supporting Strategy 2019-2025.

Duties of the role

As a member of the Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing team, the post holder will support the University in the implementation of its Health and Safety Policy, by providing professional health and safety advice and training to the Faculty of Science and Health.

You will also develop and maintain written health and safety documentation and records, and assist with monitoring health and safety, thereby helping to provide assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the University’s health and safety arrangements.

Your role will involve deputising for the Professional Lead for Health and Safety (Academic Faculties) as required and undertake or deputise for the roles of University Biological Safety Adviser, University Non-Ionising Radiation Protection Adviser, and University Ionising Radiation Protection Officer. The post will be located within the Faculty of Science and Health, enabling the post holder to work closely with departments of the Faculty and understand their needs.

Skills and Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety professional with experience of COSHH, ionising radiation and non-ionising radiation, who preferably has worked in a science-based environment. You should also have a Degree, Diploma or NVQ/SVQ level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety and be a Graduate or Chartered Member of IOSH.

It is essential that you excellent communication skills, with experience in the design and delivery of presentations and training.
