Irwin & Colton have exclusively been engaged on an exciting new opportunity with The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), who are looking on bring onboard a new Health & Safety Advisor. This role will be reporting directly into senior management, as well as working alongside the current Advisor and the Operations Managers. This role is to administer and develop the BAS safety systems and focus on driving continuous health and safety improvements.

This role is primarily based at the Cambridge head office and will have responsibility within the office environment, the port environment, and will include site visits to the Antarctic/polar regions. Key responsibilities of the Health & Safety Advisor will be:

• Working on the implementation of BAS Management systems in accordance with ISO-45001
• Supporting station operations managers and their teams within the Polar regions with risk assessment development
• Acting as key point of contact to provide safety advise to all professionals within the organisation and taking corrective actions when necessary to mitigate risks

Key skills of the Health & Safety Advisor will be:

• NEBOSH certificate as a minimum/equivalent qualification, and previous experience with ISO-45001 management systems
• Experience within the Health and Safety industry and comfortable working autonomously or with the wider team
• A pro-active approach to health and safety with experience creating solutions to unique health and safety risks
• Willingness to travel to Antarctica / polar regions for extended periods of time
