Senior Health and Safety Manager

Salary: Up to £65,000 + £550p/m car allowance + PHI, 15% Bonus

Location: Field based. Ideal base in anywhere between the Midlands to the South East.

Travel: Weekly travel for meetings, visits and as required.

 

Assured Safety Recruitment currently have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Health, Safety and Environment Manager to drive a world class safety performance as a key member of the UK safety team, servicing a home delivery business, with a number of fulfillment centres in the  South and the Midlands of the UK. The business aims to deliver a positive impact on local communities, the environment and their customers. The business is part of a large wider group who delivered strong financial results last year and continue to invest in their brand, infrastructure and people.

This role will lead a team of Regional Health & Safety Managers driving the safety culture through engagement and operational ownership of safe working practices. The role works closely with senior operations managers to embed a highly professional and thorough framework of world class safety standards. Having made some very significant progress in their safety journey, they now need the right person to continue this.

  • To deliver an effective framework for safety programme management ensuring that the plan risks and issues are effectively escalated and resolved internally.
  • To act as the safety competent person for the business unit, to deliver safety expertise, support, coaching and advice to the Operational Leadership Teams.
  • To deliver an effective framework of incident investigation, auditing, risk management and training oversight with primary focus on action closure across all sites.
  • To maintain the effective relationship for functional safety matters with the regulator/enforcing authority
  • To lead functional Health & Safety team in the successful implementation of the suite of safety metrics.
  • To lead the functional safety team using the specialist skills and knowledge of individual team members to focus on professional competencies, development and meeting all customer safety requirements
  • To performance manage, coach and develop direct reports and indirect reports where appropriate.
  • To maintain effective functional links with Group and designate safety technical expertise; contributing to and then delivering the national strategy, policy and standards
  • To deliver safety programme, initiatives and action plans for operational function with lead accountability for Health and Safety within the business unit.
  • To delivers expert support to serious incident investigation confirming causal factor identification is accurate and remedial actions implemented and effective.
  • To deliver a suite of agreed safety performance metrics against which performance and change activity will be measured and evaluated
  • To focus on Safe People, Safe Vehicles and safe journey principles.

Key skills & experience

  • NEBOSH Diploma as minimum or equivalent
  • Full driving license
  • Ability to achieve good working relationships with colleagues at all levels in the organization
  • Able to engage all safety stakeholders
  • Delivers inclusive practical/operational safety approaches
  • Ability to positively challenge and influence management teams in driving safety performance improvement
  • Passionate about safety and focused on achieving objectives
  • Able to promote a safe working culture and behaviors in others through coaching
  • Influence others through coherent explanations
  • Proven experience in delivering cultural change
  • Ability to provide practical risk control solutions
  • Administration skills / report writing / letter writing / data compilation and analysis
  • Ability to work under pressure & prioritise tasks
  • Experience in claims management
