Health & Safety Legionella Specialist

A 3 month contract for a H&S professional with specialist knowledge with Legionella based in London


This role will provide a dedicated resource for the delivery of legionella assurance within the Directorate of Estates & Facilities, with the aim of improving upon efficiency and efficacy of delivering professional Health & Safety Management across the university.

This will help to ensure that the directorate meets its obligations under Health & Safety at Work (etc) Act (HASWA) and in particular the duty to control legionella bacteria as stipulated under Regulation 3 of The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations and Regulations 6 and 7 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations.

The role will sit within the Health & Safety team and therefore the successful candidate will come from a Health & Safety background, or predominately H&S with some M&E if the main requirements are met.

Job Responsibilities:

• To manage and administer the university's Electronic Water Logbook and ensure that planned preventative maintenance and corrective tasks are configured in line with university and Estates policies and procedures.
• To provide professional advice and guidance to the Directorate and regarding water hygiene associated with construction works and projects.
• Undertake general risk assessments, legionella risk management and contingency planning
• Provision of legionella management advice to members of staff, students and the public
• Support the Head of Operational Assurance to manage legionella across the College
• Provide operational decision making relating to legionella management including input and advice on the university's legionella policy and procedures and its impact on other Directorate policies.

Qualification Required:

• Educated to Degree Standard or Similar with an appropriate science/environmental degree
• City & Guilds Certificate in Legionella (including Risk Assessment of Water Systems),
• Equivalent IOSH Managing Safely
• NEBOSH National General Certificate
