Role Purpose: Incident response if a priority activity for Natural Resources Wales (NRW).

NRW is a Category One organisation under the terms of the Civil Contingencies Act. This means we have a legal responsibility to ensure that robust incident management arrangements are in place to respond to incidents and emergencies. We respond to incidents and emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The incidents we respond to range from floods, air, land and water pollution, wildlife crime and land damage to other incidents where we act as advisors to the emergency services.

We are looking for a confident individual with experience of responding to incidents, who has the ability to work under pressure, juggle multiple priorities and deliver at pace, to join our team to support NRW in the delivery of professional incident management response.

You will work as part of a small team to:

  • Prepare NRW staff to respond to incidents through assessing risks, providing advice and guidance, producing plans and delivering training and exercises.
  • Ensure staff can effectively respond through effective implementation of emergency plans, command and control mechanisms and efficient systems, and that managers can implement their Business Continuity Plans, so that we can deliver our business's critical activities even during periods of disruption.
  • Facilitate effective post incident and post exercise reviews, to ensure that we learn from experience, change and review procedures and plans as required, and adopt new and smarter ways of working.
  • Prepare and deliver papers to the Incident Management Business Board, influencing the strategy and implementation of NRW’s incident response activities.
  • Develop and maintain trusted strategic relationships with Welsh Government and other professional partners to share intelligence, facilitate partnership working and ensure that joined up responses and reviews can be undertaken in multi-agency incidents.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of building relationships both within and beyond your organisation.
  • A clear understanding of environmental incidents and mechanisms to manage these risks.
  • Experience of translating Organisational strategy into operational delivery.
  • Personal resilience and ability to react quickly and effectively to changing, high pressure scenarios.
