About the role

Bristol City Council manages over 28,000 homes, over half of which are flats including 62 high rise buildings. We are looking to recruit a safety expert to lead on the development of an assurance framework for our high risk residential buildings and to provide assurance on the safety case for occupation under the new Fire and Building Safety legislation. In addition the role will lead on construction safety and site safety across our repairs and maintenance operations which includes 600 operatives, surveyors and site caretakers plus contractors.

We are looking for an expert in managing safety and risk, with an understanding of residential buildings and working in and on our occupied homes, engaging closely with our residents. You would be skilled at working across services and with external organisations (e.g. Regulator for Social Housing, HSE, Building Safety Regulator and Fire and Rescue Services). The role will work collaboratively with the Council’s Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

Bristol is proud to have invested well in safety in our buildings but have much more to do with the new legislation and resident engagement in the safety of their blocks. Building and Construction Safety requires the right leadership and a proactive, constructive approach to get the best results, so we are looking for these skills to join our dedicated team of leaders in Homes and Landlord Services. We are striving to ensure our residents are safe and feel safe in their homes, and if you have these skills would welcome your application to join us in this effort.
