An opportunity has arisen for a Safety, Health and Environment Adviser to join our expert team providing competent advice across all areas of health and safety at work, fire safety and relevant environmental compliance for Gloucestershire County Council.   The role involves assisting managers and council colleagues stay safe and healthy at work and assisting The Council achieve a compliant safety management system.   The team delivers a traded service to schools and educational settings providing advice and support to assist school employers meet their statutory duties to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all staff, pupils and others affected by their work activities.

The role also involves regulation of safety at sports grounds in the county, including the issue of safety certificates, working with SAGs and inspection of sports grounds.

This is a challenging and varied role so applicants require an understanding or relevant health and safety, environmental and fire safety legislation, codes of practice and other standards and must be able to source, understand and interpret guidance relevant to educational settings, workplaces and sports grounds.  An appropriate health and safety qualification is essential.  Applicants will need previous experience in a similar role, excellent communication skills with the ability to motivate and influence others to adopt and implement good practices.

The post will appeal to safety professionals wanting lots of variety as this covers a full range of health and safety topics, from general workplace hazards, to ergonomics, lone working and personal safety, infection control, fire safety, accidents and RIDDOR, hazards to health, spectator safety in stadiums and sports grounds, educational visits and off-site activities. 

This is a job with the benefit of agile working, empowering and enabling SHE Advisers to work where, when and how they choose to both meet our business need and a healthy work/life balance.  Time will be split between working from home, visits to schools and county council workplaces to undertake audits, fire risk assessments, provide advice etc. and coming in to Shire Hall for meetings and collaboration work.  This will require good organisational skills and be flexible as Advisers have autonomy to manage their own work and time.  We use a range of proformas, guidance, toolkits and technology to help us work effectively and efficiently.
