Irwin and Colton have been exclusively engaged on an exciting new opportunity to recruit the Director - Health, Safety, and Wellbeing for Canary Wharf Group. The organisation is the developer of the largest regeneration project across Europe, which consists of major commercial, mixed-use, and residential real estate. CWG control the entire life cycle to the process (acting as owners, developers, and managers across the portfolio) of circa 128 acres.

The role will be leading a team of Health and Safety and Building Safety professionals to drive innovative strategy and embed a culture of safety and wellbeing across the Group. They will protect the interests, business, assets, and wellbeing of CWG and its subsidiaries, the tenants, occupiers, employees, and public from harm and risk to their health, safety and welfare, by the effective and efficient management of Health & Building Safety Policies.

The role will report to the Managing Director - Operations with accountability to the C-Suite across the Group.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • To be responsible for leading the safety department and achieving CWG's strategic, operational, and tactical safety aims and objectives in accordance with all relevant and applicable Health and Safety legislation and the Building Safety Act.
  • To establish and implement arrangements, policies, strategies, plans and such systems and procedures as are necessary to enable CWG to adequately discharge the statutory duties and responsibilities placed on it by Health & Safety Legislation, Building Safety Act (and secondary legislation) and best practice and other related legislation in the planning, construction, operation, maintenance and occupational phases of the Group's activities and operations.
  • Act as the central liaison with external stakeholders (tenants, HSE, insurers and other bodies) as necessary for the purpose of consultation on health and safety matters, as well as approved fire safety plans/legislation, building safety requirements, and more
  • To be responsible for any special projects or to undertake such other duties of a similar nature commensurate with the position and which may from time to time be allocated by the CWM & CWC Managing Directors.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience within the estate management for residential real estate, as well as commercial (plus construction phases as well)
  • Proven experience at senior management level, with experience of line managing a team of multi-disciplined health and safety professionals
  • Chartered Membership of IOSH
  • CIOB Diploma in Building Safety Management (desirable)
  • Experience of developing and managing multimillion-pound budgets
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and write concise comprehensive reports.
  • Experience of working with enforcement and emergency bodies e.g. HSE, Building Safety Regulator
  • Capable of implementing strategy through development of policy, procedures and developing KPIs.
