The Role

The main responsibilities of the role will be:

  • To implement the monitoring of Health and Safety management systems in line with current legislation for service delivery.
  • To work in collaboration with Corporate Health and Safety colleagues to improve practices across the organisation by conducting audits, training and investigations where necessary.
  • To create and deliver a programme of specialist training delivered to operational teams across the service.
  • To collaborate with the stakeholders, such as Corporate Health & Safety colleagues, HR L&D and OD team and Project Delivery Lead for corporate training to support and assist with delivery of all H&S training packages to the Environment & Place service and advise on corporate wide H&S training initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Occupational Health nurse on H&S matters at all service locations.
  • To oversee the day-to-day management of the depot including security, parking, cleanliness and waste management functions in line with the waste transfer conditions.
  • To carry out post accident and incident investigating and appropriate corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • To carry out pre interview driver assessments where required.
  • To carry out checks and audits on front line and service delivery staff to ensure delivery of best practice.
  • To manage H & S and Depot budgets and be responsible spending officer for these departments.
  • Managing Depot waste movements between depot and disposal sites.
  • To control dept CCTV system and liaise with contracted maintainers of the system.

A full current UK driving licence is essential. As a result you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees driving licence data.

The successful candidate must hold a National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH/Diploma or Equivalent); IOSH Technical Membership; PTLLS/Level 3 Award in Education & Training and a WAMITAB qualification. You should also hold a Driving Assessor (RoSPA) qualification, or have the ability to obtain while in post. This post is permanent. The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working Monday to Friday. You may be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays in accordance with the needs of the Service.

This post is based at White Lund Depot.

The Council currently operates an excellent Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. Subject to the needs of this business, this may allow employees to work between the hours of 6:00am-10:30pm.
